On Saturday 18 November, local people will gather in Huntingdon to talk about climate change. Huntingdonshire District Council will welcome families and residents to Hinchingbrooke Country Park to learn more about what each of us can do to take on climate action and support nature.
Everyone is welcome to join the 'Climate Conversation' from 10am to 3.30pm at Hinchingbrooke Country Park. There will be hands-on activities, as well as space to talk about our changing climate and explore what each of us can do to make a difference. Visitors can also share stories about climate action they are already taking both at home and in their community.
Huntingdonshire's community groups, business owners, farmers, parish councils and environmentalists are also talking about climate. On Friday 17 November, they will gather in St Ives to share ideas about tackling climate change, enriching nature and supporting wildlife. This 'Climate Conversation' will provide a space to learn from each other with a variety of speakers from across our community.
Executive Councillor for Climate and Environment, Councillor Lara Davenport-Ray, said: "Our aim is to kick-start conversations about climate change. What can we learn from each other? Is there a community group doing amazing work increasing biodiversity? Which parishes have excellent flood management plans? Sometimes the best experts on environmental projects are our neighbours and local experts. So let's share our stories and learn from each other.
"I encourage you to come to Hinchingbrooke Country Park on Saturday 18 November and join the conversation. I’m looking forward to sharing our council's plan to tackle climate change, but I'm even more excited to hear about climate action already happening in our local communities."
Earlier this year, the council took a significant step towards a more sustainable future with the adoption of a Climate Strategy and Climate Action Plan. The action plan includes details of how the council plans to reduce its carbon emissions. It also outlines how the council will enable and influence people across Huntingdonshire to support nature recovery and combat climate change.
