The District Council has opened the next round of Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) applications, set to close on 22 January 2024.

Applications are open to Huntingdonshire's town and parish councils and infrastructure providers, with invites to apply to be sent out shortly. CIL is a planning charge placed on developers that allows local authorities to assist in the funding and delivery of infrastructure within the local area to support the needs arising from growth.

Deputy Executive Leader and Executive Councillor for Planning, Cllr Tom Sanderson, said: "Utilising the Community Infrastructure Levy that the District Council receives from new developments is an important way that we can support and strengthen our communities, ensuring that we can contribute funds to projects that are going to have a real impact locally. We are already seeing success stories from previous CIL-supported projects, and we are committed to support the development of infrastructure that enables district-wide and localised growth, improving the supply of new and affordable housing, jobs, and vital community facilities."

Previous applications for CIL funds have resulted in the support and improvement of many projects across the district including in the last round:

  • £6,013,388 for an NHS facility at Alconbury Weald

  • £641,492 for the new Police training facility in Monks Wood Sawtry

  • £175,000 for a sand-dressed pitch at One Leisure St Ives

  • £750,000 for the new MAGPAS facility at Alconbury Weald

  • and £13,747.70 for the recently completed road safety table in Elton.

In total, in the last funding round, 14 projects received funding totalling £8,324,473.20
