Volunteering

There are a variety of ways in which you can volunteer at Paxton Pits Nature Reserve, through either Huntingdonshire District Council’s Countryside Service or the Friends of Paxton Pits.

The Friends of Paxton Pits run monthly work parties on Thursdays and Sundays through the winter months. Practical tasks can involve vegetation clearance, path maintenance and grassland management. You will need to be reasonably fit and prepared to get wet and muddy! Volunteering is a great way to get some fresh air, meet new friends and learn new skills while aiding conservation.

The Friends of Paxton Pits also run regular outdoor and indoor events, ranging from guided walks to talks on local flora and fauna. Volunteers help set up and run these events. The Friends have a Wildlife and Survey Monitoring Group as well which meets monthly to monitor and record vital information about the wildlife on the reserve. You don’t need to be an expert and it’s a great way to learn more about the wildlife which can be found on the nature reserve.

The Friends are always looking for ways to raise money to support the work on the nature reserve and to fund vital projects. If you have skills in fundraising and knowledge of grants, then the Friends would love to hear from you. This volunteer role is flexible and can fit around your working hours and the time you are able to give.
