Huntingdonshire District Council and the Ministry of Defence (MOD) signed a Statement of Intent on Thursday 11 December, launching a new partnership to develop a defence cluster for Huntingdonshire.

The Statement of Intent outlines how the council and the MOD will work together to support the growth of Project FAIRFAX at the Wyton Campus to establish it as a nationally significant centre for defence intelligence and innovation that brings together Government, industry, and academic partners.

As part of this collaboration, the council and the MOD are committed to supporting the redevelopment of the North Hunts Growth Cluster – to deliver new homes, employment space, and improved infrastructure that better connects Huntingdonshire with Cambridge, London, and beyond.

Both the council and the MOD have committed to ensuring that all development aligns with local and national strategies to deliver long-term benefits for Huntingdonshire. This collaborative approach will help maximise the opportunities presented by Project FAIRFAX and the North Hunts Growth Cluster, advance the ambitions set out in the council’s Huntingdonshire Futures Place Strategy and the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority’s Local Growth Plan, and align with the Strategic Defence Review 2025 and the Defence Industrial Strategy.

Executive Leader of Huntingdonshire District Council, Councillor Sarah Conboy, said: “This is a pivotal moment for Huntingdonshire. By joining forces with the Ministry of Defence, we are unlocking new opportunities for innovation, skills, and economic growth. Our commitment is to ensure that the benefits of this defence cluster are felt across our communities - strengthening our local economy, supporting high-quality jobs, delivering necessary infrastructure and building a brighter future for all. Together, we are shaping Huntingdonshire as a place of national significance and local pride.”
