Huntingdonshire District Council welcomed His Majesty’s Ambassadors to Nordic and Baltic countries, alongside defence, government and industry leaders, for a series of events held across the district on 9 and 10 March.

The programme highlighted Huntingdonshire’s growing role as a strategic location for defence, innovation and investment within the UK’s Oxford–Cambridge Supercluster.

On Monday 9 March, the Council hosted ambassadors from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Latvia and Lithuania at Pathfinder House in Huntingdon, where they met with council representatives and partners to discuss regional opportunities and the district’s role in supporting the UK’s defence and security capabilities.

Later that evening, a networking reception brought together government stakeholders, industry leaders, investors and local partners. Guests heard keynote addresses from Cllr Sarah Conboy, Executive Leader of Huntingdonshire District Council and Charlotte Horobin from the Cambridgeshire Chamber of Commerce, highlighting the links between defence capability, skills and place-based growth.

On Tuesday 10 March, the Council hosted a Place Discovery tour — Showcasing Huntingdonshire, a programme of briefings and site visits introducing international defence companies and investors to opportunities across the district. The event aimed to bring Huntingdonshire’s offer to life for those less familiar with the area, demonstrating the district’s historic and current links to defence and its ambition for future growth.

The programme included visits to Alconbury Weald Enterprise Zone and RAF Wyton, where attendees learned more about Project FAIRFAX, future partnership opportunities, the CPCA Local Growth Plan, and the collaborative approach taken locally to secure investment that benefits the district. Throughout the day, the importance of Pride in Place and an Inclusive Economy, key themes from the council’s adopted Place Strategy, were highlighted.

Those attending recognised the scale and depth of the opportunity in Huntingdonshire and expressed strong support for the district’s ambition, alongside a willingness to build long-term relationships following the Statement of Intent signed in late 2025.

Councillor Sarah Conboy, Executive Leader of Huntingdonshire District Council, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome ambassadors, government representatives and industry leaders to Huntingdonshire.

“These events provided an opportunity to showcase the strength of our district, the partnerships we are building, and our growing role in supporting the UK’s defence, innovation and economic growth priorities. We are proud of what Huntingdonshire can offer and look forward to continuing to work with partners to unlock future opportunities.”

Charlotte Horobin, Chief Executive of Cambridgeshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “Huntingdonshire has a strong and growing reputation as a place where defence, innovation and business collaboration come together. By bringing international partners, government and industry leaders to the district, this programme has highlighted the opportunities available here and the importance of strong partnerships in supporting investment, skills and long-term economic growth.”

The programme highlighted the ambition of Huntingdonshire’s emerging defence cluster and the opportunities for collaboration across government, industry and academia.
