Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) is pleased to report a marked improvement in its latest Climate Action Scorecard rating, achieving an overall score of 40% in the 2025 assessment, a 13-point increase since 2023.
This progress highlights the council’s growing commitment to tackling the climate crisis and putting sustainability at the centre of its work.
Several key areas saw particularly strong progress in this year’s assessment. Biodiversity recorded a 30-point increase, reflecting the impact of the council’s Biodiversity for All programme, which is helping to protect and restore local natural habitats.
The Buildings and Heating category, which has increased 19 points to 67%, reflects the success of the council’s leisure centre retrofit projects. This increase was also boosted by initiatives like Net Zero Villages, aimed at cutting carbon emissions and improving energy efficiency in communities across the district.
Executive Councillor for Climate, Transformation and Workforce, Cllr Lara Davenport-Ray said: “It’s really encouraging to see our hard work on climate reflected in these results. This is thanks to the dedication of our staff, the support of our partners, and the enthusiasm of our communities who are helping to drive real change. We know there’s still a long way to go, but we’re making solid progress and remain committed to doing more.”
The council will use the Scorecard findings to help shape future priorities and continue embedding climate action across all areas of its work.
