Job details

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated individual to join our Benefits team as a Housing Benefit Assessment Officer. You will play a vital role in supporting residents by accurately assessing claims for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support, ensuring timely and fair decisions in line with legislation and local policy. 

About the role 

You will assess and process claims for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support, working closely with customers to gather the right information and make fair, accurate decisions. This is a role where your attention to detail, empathy and ability to work independently will really shine. You’ll be part of a supportive and collaborative team that shares knowledge, solves problems together, and is always looking for ways to improve the service we offer.

About you

  • Proven experience in Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support assessments or similar welfare-related assessments.

  • Strong working knowledge of relevant legislation and DWP guidance.

  • Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy.

  • Confident IT user, ideally with experience in NEC Revenues and Benefits system.

  • Effective communicator with a customer-focused approach.

  • Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload under pressure.

An offer of employment is conditional upon having the right to work in the UK. HDC does not hold a Sponsorship Licence and is unable to provide a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) or take over sponsorship for any role.

This will still include work from home and flexi-time opportunities in order to provide a good work-life balance whilst still ensuring that teams benefit from in person interaction. Candidates should therefore be within commutable distance of our offices in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire or able to attend meetings as required if further afield.
