Huntingdonshire District Council is delighted to announce the rollout of eight new Digital Information Screens across the district’s four market towns, St Neots, St Ives, Huntingdon and Ramsey.
This initiative, delivered in partnership with local town councils, Huntingdon BID, and Connecting Cambridgeshire, and funded by the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority, supports the ongoing revitalisation of town centres and encourages greater community engagement.
Each town will receive two interactive digital touchscreens, delivering engaging, real-time information for both residents and visitors. The screens will feature:
-
Local event listings
-
A searchable business directory
-
Highlights of local tourism and heritage.
Live bus and train departure information will soon be added, making them even more helpful for everyday travel and visits.
The screens have been installed at the following key locations:
-
Huntingdon: High Street, St Benedicts Court and Chequers Shopping Centre
-
St Ives: Sheepmarket and The Waits
-
Ramsey: Rivermill and Great Whyte
-
St Neots: Market Square and outside the Library.
Executive Councillor for Economy, Regeneration and Housing, Cllr Sam Wakeford, said: “This project is a great opportunity to support and engage with our market towns. These screens will not only help residents stay informed and connected but also support local businesses and showcase the rich heritage we have across Huntingdonshire. It’s a brilliant example of what partnership working can achieve.”
Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, Paul Bristow, said: “The Market Towns Programme is bringing digital screens to Huntingdonshire, which we hope will be a new way of engaging that people find useful.
“Residents will be able to see what’s happening in each place and get up-to-date information. The screens will even tell us when the bus is coming. I’m glad that we could support the district council and make this happen.”
BID Huntingdon Town Centre Manager, Paul Sweeney, said: “I’m delighted to have the screens installed in both the town centre and a smaller version by our Visitor Centre. It’s the perfect way to engage visitors to our town, highlight some of our incredible shops and services and events. It’s also a great way for our local residents to re-discover Huntingdon, interactive boards have long been seen as the go to for information so BID Huntingdon were very grateful to both HDC and CPCA for their support. Working with HBAC (Huntingdonshire Businesses Against Crime) the screens also offer evening and night economy safety messaging for visitors to our bars, pubs, restaurants and event venues taking the safety of visitors seriously.”
Sarah Marsh, Connecting Cambridgeshire Programme Director, said: “Drawing on our experience in digital infrastructure deployment, we’ve been really pleased to support Huntingdonshire District Council in deploying their new digital screens. This is a great example of how smart technology and digital connectivity, including free public access CambWifi, can enhance public spaces, support local businesses, and make it easier for residents and visitors to access useful local information every day.”
The digital screens are just one of several projects under the Market Towns Programme.
