Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) is passionate about providing high-quality services to our communities, residents and businesses. This means we must employ and retain the most talented and dedicated people.

Situated within the heart of the Cambridge-Peterborough Growth Area, Huntingdonshire is a beautiful district that boasts thriving market towns and many attractive villages, each with its own identity. We are an innovative and forward-thinking local authority whose residents are at the heart of our decision-making.

At HDC we want to employ staff who embody our icare values (Inspiring, Collaborative, Accountable, Respectful, Enterprising), all of which support our ultimate purpose of putting our customers first.

Job details

We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable individual to join the Visitors’ Centre cafe team at HDC's Countryside Services. This is an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of a high-quality food service within a busy visitors’ centre while helping to create a welcoming experience for all park visitors.

The successful candidate will assist with the preparation and service of food and refreshments, ensuring meals are presented to a high standard and served efficiently. You will help maintain clean, well-stocked, and visually appealing food displays while supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the cafe and food service counter.

Providing excellent customer service will be a key part of the role. You will engage positively with visitors, respond helpfully to requests, and contribute to creating a friendly and professional environment within the visitors’ centre.

The role also involves maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the kitchen and cafe areas, following food safety legislation, cleaning schedules, and health and safety procedures. You will safely operate kitchen equipment following training, assist with stock control and stock rotation, and help minimise food waste wherever possible.

As part of the Countryside Services team, you will contribute positively to the promotion of the country park and visitors’ centre while developing a good understanding of the park, its facilities, and the work carried out by the ranger team.

We are looking for someone with strong communication and customer service skills, the ability to work effectively as part of a team, and a positive, flexible, and organised approach to work. Basic food preparation and kitchen skills, along with an understanding of hygiene and food safety standards, are desirable. Most importantly, you will be enthusiastic, reliable, and committed to providing an excellent experience for visitors.

About you

The successful candidate will have strong communication and customer service skills, the ability to work effectively as part of a team, basic food preparation and kitchen skills, and a good understanding of hygiene and food safety standards, while demonstrating a reliable, organised, flexible, and positive approach to supporting colleagues and visitors in a busy environment.

An offer of employment is conditional upon having the right to work in the UK. HDC does not hold a Sponsorship Licence and is unable to provide a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) or take over sponsorship for any role.
