Huntingdonshire District Council introduced the Concessionary Membership Scheme back in April 2019. Since the scheme re-opened in late March there have been over 35 successful applications. These customers are already benefiting from accessing leisure facilities and improving their health.
The idea behind the scheme is to enable more people to access many activities at our One Leisure facilities at a discounted price, such as gym sessions, fitness classes and public swimming. Prices vary from being free for swimming (before 4.30pm) to just £17.50 per month for a solo gym membership.
The scheme isn’t restricted to an individual, for example, a single parent with young children may qualify under the scheme. The parent would be eligible if they receive certain benefits and children under 18 years of age living with that individual can be added to the membership scheme as a dependent. This means that the whole household would benefit from the discounted rates to access facilities.
To qualify for the scheme you must meet specified eligibility criteria. For example, someone who receives income or employment-related benefits, disability-related benefits and those with degenerative neurological conditions could all be eligible under the scheme. If you believe you may be eligible then visit our One Leisure Concessionary Scheme page to find out more information and apply.
Executive Councillor for Community Resilience and Wellbeing, Cllr Simon Bywater, said: "It’s great to see the amount of residents already taking those first steps to becoming more active and enhancing the wellbeing of our communities. Over the last twelve months, people's priorities have changed and becoming more active has been at the forefront of residents' minds. Anything we can do to support and encourage our residents to become more active is certainly beneficial for us all."
Executive Councillor for Leisure and Regulatory Services. Cllr Keith Prentice, said: "The Concessionary Membership Scheme gives our residents more opportunity to access our brilliant One Leisure Facilities and all they have to offer. The teams at the One Leisure facilities are excited to be welcoming new and returning customers to activities indoors from 17 May in line with government guidance."
