During October we ran a photo competition, designed to celebrate the amazing spaces and places of Huntingdonshire and encourage residents and visitors to explore the local area. Over 100 high quality entries were submitted and included photos of some of the district’s favourite local places, landscapes, buildings, and wildlife shots.

We are delighted to announce the names of the three winners and share their winning entries!

First place

Speaking about her winning image, photographer Diana Hagues said: "I captured this photo of my husband and dog together while I was walking around Portholme Meadow to follow their journey on the river. This place has always been very special to us, but particularly in the last year or so when the pandemic hit and we needed to find solace being close to nature near our home. When I saw this scene, I knew it encapsulated the beauty of this place where we lived."

Second place

Speaking about her photograph, Victoria Bowers said: "This row of ancient trees at the park always leave me in awe of nature. I see them change with the seasons as they remain dominant and powerful. If these trees could speak, they would have many stories to tell."

The winning entry has been awarded £100 worth of Click it Local vouchers, with second and third place entrants awarded with £50 and £25 worth of vouchers respectively.

Deputy Executive Leader of the Council, Cllr Jon Neish commented: "We were struck by the exceptionally high standard of photos submitted for this competition. Each entry did a fantastic job of showcasing the wonderful spaces and places found across Huntingdonshire.

With such a high quality number of submissions, it was a challenging judging process – but our winning entries represent the beautiful and diverse scenes that can be found in the district, from striking landscapes to historic high streets. We offer our wholehearted congratulations to all our winners."

The Capture What Captures You photo competition ran as part of 'What Will You Find In Huntingdonshire' – the HDC led visitor economy campaign designed to encourage residents and visitors to discover new places, spaces and activities across the district, with reassurance they can do so safely. The campaign is funded by the UK Government Welcome Back Fund, in association with the European Regional Development Fund, and activity runs across HDC’s digital channels and in a partnership with Star Radio.
