Garden Waste Subscription Stickers

The garden waste subscription stickers have started to be sent to those properties who have subscribed to the new garden waste service from 1st April 2024.

Stickers are going out in batches and residents will receive them in time for the start of the service.  If you have ordered an additional bin/s as part of your subscription, sticker for these bins will be sent to you after your bin/s have been delivered

The council will be operating from a reduced budget position in the future and has to make significant savings. Therefore we can no longer afford to provide this service for free. The bin delivery charging policy has been introduced to encourage residents to take responsibility for the bins provided and to reduce demand for replacement bins.

Householders are responsible for looking after their bins and residents are being encouraged to take steps to keep them safe. If your bin is lost, stolen or damaged beyond repair a delivery charge will be made for a replacement.

The delivery charge is £15 whether we are replacing 1 or all 3 bins.

The charge is for the delivery of the bins.

We are not making money by charging for the delivery of bins, we are only covering our costs. In 2018 we issued over 1,500 bins free of charge - unfortunately we can no longer afford to provide this service free of charge.

No, please check that it hasn’t been left at a neighbour’s property or further down the street.

We will be making a charge to replace stolen bins to encourage residents to take responsibility for their bins and to bring them in after they have been emptied.

We will, however, send you out a replacement bin free of charge if your bin has gone into the back of the collection vehicle. If this does happen, our collection crew will report back to the waste managers and a replacement bin will be ordered.

There are several things you can do to help prevent this occurring:

  • make sure your bins have the correct address on
  • put your bin out for collection after 6pm the night before your collection is due and no later than 6.30am on your collection day
  • try to ensure that your bin is brought back in as soon as possible after the collection. Your neighbour may be able to help with this.

No – due to the lifting equipment on our collection vehicles we have to ensure the bins are the correct specification so only bins that we provide will be emptied.

We have a legal requirement under Section 46 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 (EPA) to collect household waste. Section 46 says that the local authority (Huntingdonshire District Council) can define the kind of bin to be used and require the occupier to pay for it.

Residents who decline to pay for the supply of a bin may be served with a Section 46 notice under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and/or other relevant legislation. The notice will require the householder to provide the necessary containers for their waste. Failure to comply with this notice may lead to a fixed penalty notice being issued and/or prosecution by the council, if the resident puts rubbish out in an unauthorised container.

Residents may prefer to dispose of their rubbish themselves and can take their rubbish to one of our household recycling centres, rather than pay for a replacement bin.

If a bin is damaged and the fault lies with our collection crew, this will be recorded by the crew and a new bin will be delivered free of charge.

Yes, you will have to pay. If you rent your house from a private or social landlord you should approach them to pay for your bin(s).

Our delivery team will leave your bins as close to your property as they possibly can.

We are no longer able to replace lids or wheels, therefore a new bin is required and the delivery charge is applicable.

If you move house, the bins will need to remain at the property you are moving from unless you have an additional domestic or garden waste bin - in these cases if you are moving within the district you can take the additional bin with you, but should notify us. You should check on the property you are moving to and ensure bins are in place - if they are not you should discuss this with your new landlord or seller of the property.

Yes. The charge applies to black refuse bins, garden waste bins and recycling bins.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to provide a replacement bin before payment has been received and you will need to dispose your waste legally in the meantime.

Unfortunately, we cannot take part payment and a bin can only be delivered once the full payment has been received.

Bins will be returned to the collection point where possible or another safe place within a reasonable distance of the property. Please ensure that your address is on your bin to avoid this going missing and to help both you and crews to identify which address the bin ‘belongs’ to.

You must try to retrieve your bin by first speaking to your neighbour. If you are not successful you will have to order a replacement bin for your property which will incur the delivery charge.

Yes, you will still be required to pay the charge for the bin. Please make sure that you are not overfilling your bin, resulting in it splitting.

This waste will not be collected by the crews. This may lead to prosecution and this waste will be investigated by our staff.

Refuse, especially food waste, placed out in sacks is much more likely to attract rats and dumping of rubbish, which will affect your neighbours as well as you.
