Over the past three months work has been carried out to get Huntingdonshire District Council’s pay and display machines ready for the new £1 coin.

Made of two metals and boasting a hologram that changes from a ‘£’ symbol to the number ‘1’ when seen from different angles, the new 12-sided coin is designed to be virtually impossible to forge.

The old £1 coin will be phased out between 28 March and 15 October this year, after which it will not be legal tender. All HDC pay and display machines will accept both styles of coin in circulation until 15 October.

Further information about the new pound coin can be found on the Royal Mint website.
