Huntingdonshire’s Community Plant and Tree Nursery in Godmanchester is now opening on the second Saturday of each month to give local people who work during the week a chance to see the nursery and buy plants. Normal opening hours are 9am to 4pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday and now the nursery will be open from 10am to 1pm on 8 October, 12 November and 10 December.

This four acre community nursery, situated behind 25 Park Lane in Godmanchester, has several different areas including a vegetable garden and potager (a Victorian style garden used for growing vegetables and flowers for use in the home), an orchard growing local apple varieties and a range of plums, a winter aspect garden, a drought garden, a rose garden, a nuttery and a bee garden. Plants for sale include a range of perennial plants, fruit trees, bush hybrid tea roses in a variety of colours and a mix of spring and summer bulbs, all being sold at very reasonable prices.

Cllr Robin Carter, whose executive responsibilities include parks and countryside, said: "The Community Nursery is well worth a visit to explore and gain some ideas for your own garden. There is a great team of volunteers who work with the Rangers and the Friends Group to carry out all manner of jobs from weeding to vegetable planting, seed sowing to fruit harvesting, mulching to grass cutting. By extending the opening times to one Saturday a month it will give more people the chance to see the site and buy some plants too."
