A set of historic photographs covering much of the county of Huntingdonshire is being deposited with the Huntingdon Archives by Huntingdonshire District Council.

The black and white photographs were taken between 1949 and 1950 by the county surveyor and are a catalogue of signs and posters taken as a record for the 1949 Advertising Regulations.  The photographs are sure to generate local interest as they offer a rare snapshot of the district from a bygone age.

Cllr Doug Dew, Executive Councillor for Strategic Planning and Housing said: "The loan of these historic photo books to the Archives will not only ensure they are kept safe, but will also mean that members of the public can have access to them.  They hold a fascinating insight into how our district once looked and it’s intriguing to see how things have changed."

The books will be available to view in the Huntingdon Archives once they have been fully catalogued.
