The chairman of Huntingdonshire District Council, Cllr Peter Bucknell, has various flag raising events throughout the year. They are as follows:

  • 21 April 2016 – Queen's Birthday Celebration. Joint flag raising at Pathfinder House for the Queen’s 90th birthday with Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) and Huntingdon Town Council (HTC).

  • 31 May 2016 – Battle of Jutland. The Battle of Jutland took place between the British Grand Fleet and the German High Seas Fleet on 31 May 1916 in the North Sea, off the mainland of Denmark. There will be a joint flag raising at Pathfinder House between HDC and HTC to mark the centenary of the Battle of Jutland. There will also be a wreath laying at the Thinking Soldier afterwards.

  • 24 June 2016 – Armed Forces Day. There will be a flag raising event at Pathfinder House to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community.

  • 1 July 2016 – Battle of the Somme. The Battle of the Somme in 1916 was fought between July and November. It was one of the defining events of the First World War. HDC and HTC are hosting a joint event with a flag raising at Pathfinder House followed by wreath laying at the Thinking Soldier and refreshments in the Town Hall to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.

  • 2 September 2016 – Merchant Navy Day. Merchant Navy Day honours the invaluable contribution that members of our Merchant Navy have made. HDC will be holding a ceremony to fly the Red Ensign at Pathfinder House for Merchant Navy Day.

  • 30 October 2016 – Battle of Britain. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, the first decisive battle in history that was fought entirely in the air. There will be a flag raising at Pathfinder House to commemorate the end of the Battle of Britain.
