Concessionary Bus Passes

The National Concessionary Fares Scheme

News -  Important changes to providing concessionary bus passes

There are changes happening to who looks after concessionary bus passes. But don’t worry, one thing that isn’t changing is that a concessionary bus pass still entitles holders to travel free of charge on off peak local bus services anywhere in England.

From 1st April 2011 Cambridgeshire County Council will take full responsibility for the provision of concessionary bus passes in the county. This means that where eligible residents currently apply to their district councils for their pass, from April they will need to apply to Cambridgeshire County Council.

Those applying for their first bus pass will still be required to provide a recent photograph and prove they are eligible for their bus pass. This means providing proof of residency in Cambridgeshire and proof of age or disability. Details of where application forms can be picked up and completed forms submitted will communicated by the County Council as soon as they are available.

Residents that have a current bus pass will not need to reapply and existing bus passes remain valid until their expiry date. Existing concessionary bus pass holders’ information will be transferred to the County Council in order to continue the service. This data will be used only for the purpose of continuing the concessionary bus pass scheme. All data will be kept confidential.
