Small electrical recycling
The amount of electrical waste we throw away is increasing by around 5 per cent each year, which makes it one of the fastest growing types of waste in the UK.
Huntingdonshire residents have already helped the district achieve a recycling rate of 57 per cent. To further extend the amount of materials our residents can recycle, Huntingdonshire District Council are pleased to announce that you can now recycle your unwanted small electrical items within the new WEEE banks (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) situated at the following sites:
- Huntingdon, Riverside Car Park
- St Ives, Cattle Market Car Park
- St Neots, Tebbutts Road Car Park
The WEEE banks are there to take your old or broken small electrical and electronic items such as toasters, kettles and shavers. The banks have a small opening and therefore are not able to take large items such as fridges, freezers and televisions.
Councillor Tysoe, Executive Councillor for the Environment said: “Using the WEEE banks is an easy and convenient way of getting rid of those small electrical items that you no longer have a use for. As well as diverting small electrical items from landfill, some of the items disposed of in these banks may have the potential to be reused by others”.
As well as the WEEE banks, you can still recycle these items and larger electrical items at the Household Waste Recycling Centres in Alconbury, Bluntisham and St Neots.
