Somersham School Gets Healthy
Children from Somersham Primary School recently took part in an active lifestyles day, involving a mix of healthy living games and sports activities for all pupils aged seven to 11.
The healthy living games provided by the sport and active lifestyles team at Huntingdonshire District Council taught children about healthy eating and being active whilst having fun with their friends at the same time. The sports that they took part in were dodgeball and tri-golf.
Somersham was the first school that has benefited from the new healthy living games provided by the sport and active lifestyles team, and the feedback gained from the children was very positive. Comments included: “I really enjoyed the games as they are good for teaching you to have a good life” (Ella Dighton), and “I really liked the food game as it taught me not to eat too much junk food!” (Neamh).
Councillor Andrew Hansard, whose executive responsibilities include sport and active lifestyles, commented: “Children love to play games and sports, and this is an ideal way to teach them about healthy eating and being active. We now hope that children at other schools can benefit from these active lifestyles days.”
