The Benefits Section is here to administer the Housing and Council Tax Benefits scheme for the people of Huntingdonshire.

We aim to:

  • Visit customers to assist with their benefit claims and ensure correct information is used for assessment of entitlement.
  • Consider paying Discretionary Housing Payments to help those people who do not receive full Housing or Council Tax Benefit where appropriate.
  • Prevent & detect fraud in Housing and Council Tax Benefit and promote fraud awareness and our anti-fraud strategy.
  • Collect Housing Benefit overpayments in accordance with our Debt Recovery Strategy and Overpayment Policy.
  • Liaise effectively with internal and external customers, including The Pensions Service, The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and Rent Service.
