Facilities
Visitors' Centre
The Park and the car park are open at all times. The toilets, which are situated at the back of the Visitors’ Centre, are open from 9am until 5pm but may be locked overnight. The Visitors' Centre is staffed at peak times, if you have any queries about natural history or our events then a Ranger will be on hand to help you. In the Visitors' Centre there are leaflets about the Park and events, the other Countryside Services sites, the surrounding area and wildlife organisations. There are also activities for children and fun & informative displays. We would appreciate dogs being kept on a lead when within, and immediately surrounding, the Visitors’ Centre.
Café
Our newly extended cafe is now open! The re-development has been a huge success so now we can offer extended opening hours and a new menu.
The cafe, located within the Visitors' Centre, is currently open from 10am until 4pm Tuesday - Sunday until the clocks change in spring. Breakfasts are now being served until11am with a number of options on offer from full English to toast and marmalade. We use local produce as much as possible. A variety of hot food is be available daily from 12pm - 2pm, details will be on our daily specials board. All day there is a variety of home cooked fare available such as soup (in the winter months), filled rolls, toasties, home made cakes & biscuits. If you pre-order your food before you walk you can be sure of a warm and refreshing welcome when you return. Larger groups can usually be catered for but arrangements must be made at least two weeks in advance.
Car parking
The car park is located at the entrance to the park in 4 parking bays with only a short walk down to the Visitors’ Centre. Disabled drivers, or those with disabled passengers, can drive down to the Visitors’ Centre and park in the Countryside Centre car park.
Path network
The Park has a network of hard surfaced paths suitable for wheelchairs, pushchairs and all season walking. At wet times of year many other paths make wellies or sturdy boots essential to keep your feet dry! The leaflet has a map of the Park with the main paths shown, see the link to the right.
Seating
There are plenty of seats and picnic benches around the Park for those needing a rest, a short break or an unusual spot for a picnic.
Disabled Access
The park has disabled parking at the Visitors’ Centre, drive past the main parking bays and carefully on down the drive to the Countryside Centre car park. Please do not block the emergency access or other gates. A disabled toilet is located in the Visitors Centre that requires a radar key which the Rangers or café staff can provide upon request.
The Park has a network of hard surfaced paths which are suitable for wheelchairs, although a strong “pusher” may be necessary!
We have two Trampers, rugged battery powered wheelchairs, available for use by our visitors. These can go around the Park on the harder paths giving you freedom to explore more of the site and keep up with those more mobile than you! The Trampers have simple hand controls and can be used after a short training session. We suggest you 'phone us to book one in advance as they are very popular; 01480 451568. We do not charge for use of the wheelchairs.
