Getting Involved with Health Walks

Picture showing a group of walkers and leaders

All new walkers are welcome to the scheme whether you are currently fit and active or those who have not exercise in a long time.

The walk starts at a gentle pace to warm up the muscles and mobilise the joints, the pace will then increase slightly to a brisk walk, increasing the heart rate, this will help you achieve various health related benefits. The walks are designed to allow you to walk at your own comfortable pace it is not a race and a brisk pace will be what feels comfortable to you

All walks are led by qualified volunteer walk leader’s that are also trained in first aid. They are there to help and to answer any questions that you may have. We want this to be an enjoyable experience for you so if you feel something is not right during the walk or if it is going too fast then tell a leader and they will slow down with you.

It couldn’t be easier to get started all you need to do is choose your walk location, turn up 15 minutes prior to your first walk, complete a health questionnaire and off you go.

All Walks are graded –

Green– Easy Walk. 20-30 Mins, 1 – 2 miles, flat pathways only. Suitable for wheel chairs and buggy’s.

Orange– Moderate Walk, 30-60 Mins, 2 - 3 miles, mixture of pathways and grass tracks, may include stiles or kissing gates. May not be suitable for wheel chairs and buggy’s.

Red– Advance Walk, 60-90 Mins, 3 - 4 miles, mixture of pathways and grass tracks, may include stiles or kissing gates. May not be suitable for wheel chairs and buggy’s.

Green/Orange or Green/Red – These are Moderate (orange) or advanced (red) walks with the option of a shorter easier route if desired. Mixture of pathways and grass tracks, may include stiles or kissing gates. May not be suitable for wheel chairs and buggy’s.
