Disability Sport

Tennis at an Outdoor Disability Sports Festival

 There are over 10 million disabled people in the UK. Currently 93% of disabled people in England are not taking part in sport according to the latest Sport England Active People Survey.

Sport and physical activity have massive benefits to the health and wellbeing of the nation. As well as improving life chances and expectancy, sport has been proven to boost confidence and social interaction. The Sport and Active Lifestyles team’s vision is to provide disabled people the same opportunities and choices as non-disabled people to participate, and stay in sport.

We aim to do this through 5 ways;
• Community Development - Creating additional opportunities for participation in sport and recreation.
• Coach Education - Improving coaching opportunities and awareness.
• Health - Promoting the use of sport and recreation to improve health.
• Club Development - Working with existing clubs to provide opportunities for the target groups.
• Information - Promoting and improve awareness of sporting opportunities for the target groups.
