Disability Day Care Centre Sessions

Disabled people across the district have been enjoying weekly sports sessions as part of the DASH (Delivering Activity and Sport in Huntingdonshire) project. Since the sessions began the users have improved their skills and their confidence has grown, participants are coming back week after week with a smile and really look forward to the session.

Three day care centres: Shortsands, CATS, and Special Choices are receiving free sports sessions thanks to the funding awarded by Sport England to run DASH. Service users have been taking part in sports such as cricket, football, boccia, chair based exercise, hockey and tennis. Due to the popularity and the benefits that regular sport sessions have proved, further day care centres are due to receive some support from the DASH project.

A support worker from CATS at St.Ives has commented ‘We are so grateful to your team of very professional staff who have given the Service Users a real buzz & a fun time exercising. There is a marked increase in their individual hand - eye co-ordination and the difference in each Service User is obvious in their improved mobility & confidence in their every day actions.’

The DASH project will continue to offer a wide range of sporting activities throughout 2012 and into 2013. For more information about the DASH project and what it has to offer you visit www.huntingdonshire.gov.uk/dash or email the Sport and Active Lifestyles team using the link on the right.
