DASH still benefiting the people of Huntingdonshire

DASH, which stands for Delivering Activity and Sport in Huntingdonshire, is a three year project designed to increase and sustain sports participation across the district.

Over the last 12 months the Sport England funded DASH Project has continued to deliver an excellent service for all participants in Huntingdonshire.

As part of the DASH project, the sport and active lifestyles team has organised a range of sports activities for adults to try, such as golf, basketball, athletics, sailing, lawn bowls, rowing, climbing, archery, judo, table tennis, racketball, indoor shooting, trampolining and tennis. Since April 2011 a total of 419 people have taken part in these taster activities.

The DASH project has also seen nine more local businesses take part in it's TimeOut scheme. TimeOut in the workplace, offers businesses free support to provide activities for their workforce.

Other activities that have been on offer include:

  • Last years Sports Festival in the Park, which attracted over 500 people is back again on 22nd July 2012
  • Disability activities that remove transport barriers allowing service users to receive regular activity sessions
  • Twilight sessions that support 13-19 year olds to play informal activities such as football and basketball
  • Multi-sports clubs, allowing 11-16 year olds the chance to access structured sports sessions
  • College activities, providing students with the opportunity to be active
  • Offering support at village fetes and events across the district
  • The DASH project also supports local sports clubs to develop and increase membership by marketing open days through a project called Not the Big 4, and offering volunteers involved with the clubs the chance to earn qualifications.

DASH in partnership with the One Leisure sites are also holding Games Festivals. As part of the countdown to the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympic Games you are invited to join us where you can discover and be inspired by sports in your local area.

The DASH project will continue to offer a wide range of sporting activities throughout 2012 and into 2013. For more information, use the links on the left hand side of the page or contact Johnny Pool, Sports Activator, on 01480 387098 or email the Sport and Active Lifestyles Team.
