Bulky Household Waste Collection

Huntingdonshire District Council offers residents a bulky household waste collection service.   This is for the collection of household waste over the weight of 25kgs and / or items which will not fit in your wheeled bin. It is not for the disposal of excess waste which can be taken to one of Cambridgeshire County Council’s recycling centres. As a general rule these collections are only for items that you would take with you when you move house and not for the collection of waste from DIY work on a property.

The service is based on a pre-arranged appointment and requires payment in advance at the time of booking.

When are collections made?

Appointments can be made for collections on Monday to Friday excluding public holidays. You will be advised what day applies to your area when you pay for the collection. It is not possible to be specific about the time of collection.

Collections are based on first come first serve basis. Once the daily maximum number of collections has been reached, you may have to wait until the next available collection slot for the area.

How can I arrange a collection?

Contact the Council via the link on the right. Payment is required at the time of booking and can be arranged over the telephone. It would be helpful to have a list of items you would like collected and your debit card details to hand when you telephone.

When arranging the collection you will be asked to described your items as follows:-

1 Settee , 1 Chair , 1 Chair  (Not one 3 piece suite) , 1 Complete Bed etc

How much does it cost?

These charges are correct from 1 April 2012 until 31 March 2013.

Commercial Bulky Waste Collection Service

We offer a service to commercial businesses for the collection of waste for a charge, which is detailed on our website.

We will arrange a visit to assess the request and give you a quotation for the removal of your waste. If the waste is of a type we cannot dispose of then we will not provide a quote for the work and you will need to arrange for an alternative registered waste provider to collect the waste.

The charge includes the time taken to travel to your premise from our depot, make the collection and take the waste to a disposal site.

We will NOT collect the following items from commercial premises
• Asbestos
• Computer monitors
• Fixtures and fittings
• Fluorescent tubes
• Fridges
• Freezers
• Paint
• Plasterboard
• Televisions

Payment must be received before the collection is made. In exceptional circumstances companies may request alternative payment arrangements. These will be agreed on an individual basis.

What to do on the day of collection

Place items for collections at a single point on the edge of your premises adjacent to the public highway. It must be easy to access and all placed at the same point by 7.30am on your arranged collection day.

Only items listed on the request will be removed, any additional items must be requested separately.

Please Note:
If we are unsure about what items to take, for instance there are two identical items on site but only one on the request, NONE of the items in question will be taken.

Items for collection should not be filled with other waste. These items will not be taken.

Council staff are instructed not to enter property to collect items.
