Sustainability and Greener Living
Sustainability is a process of improving our quality of life by promoting local economic development in such a way that seeks to protect and enhance our environment, fosters our sense of community and promotes social progress. The things that we do today can determine the future that we are going to leave for our children and children's children. We want to leave them a world in which they can be proud and flourish. This will only happen if the way we progress and develop now is in keeping with the capacity of the natural environment.
Huntingdonshire District Council is committed to embracing the principles of sustainable development.
A Plan for our Environment - 'Growing Awareness'
In June 2008 Huntingdonshire District Council officially launched a five year environment strategy for Huntingdonshire. This is the starting point for a variety of initiatives that will help to safeguard Huntingdonshire’s unique environment for years to come.
The Council is responsible for promoting the economic, social and environmental wellbeing of our communities, so that we can all enjoy a good quality of life now and in the future. To work towards sustaining our responsibilities the Council will look at its own actions as well as those of businesses, residents and other organisations within the district.
The document outlines the environmental commitments the council aims to tackle including the issues of climate change, the earth’s rapidly depleting resources and protection of the natural environment.
Please follow the links on the left for more information on how the Council is striving to meet targets, and practical information and advice on how you can help to save money at the same time as conserving the Earth’s resources.
