How we built our website
This section is intended for organisations that are interested in how we built the Huntingdonshire District Council website.
Our website publishing system runs from Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server 2007 to which we have made a number of in house customisations.
Authors in each department contribute content that is structured in accordance with the Local Government Navigation list (LGNL). Work is then approved by department editors before appearing on the website. All content is created within a template which allows the web team to retain control over its presentation in order to comply with legislation on accessibility and usability
Our forms, emails and FAQ's are managed using Xigla's products which have also proved to be very useful and very cost effective.
We have chosen to present the majority of our documents in pdf format as this is an open format with a freely available reader. Some documents are also avaliable in .csv format.
We use a software product called SortSite to check our site for accessibility issues. This is approved by the WAI.
Our search / A to Z service is provided by Open Objects Hosted search product.
We use DixerIT Plus to provide an audio version of all our web pages and documents along with accessibility options.
More information about any of the products or services mentioned above can be found by following the links on the right of this page.
Our Promise to You
Our services manage their own web content and we are commited to working with them to ensure that content on the website is kept as up to date as possible. If you do notice anything that is out of date please contact us via the link on the right of this page and we will ensure it is updated as soon as possible.
Mobile
We recognise that many of our customers are now accessing our website via mobile devices. We feel that our website works well on the more modern phones but in order to ensure compliance with legacy devices we are working on a mobile version of the website produced by using a specific style sheet..
We have an Iphone App for viewing our swimming timetables which can be accessed using the link on the right.
