Woodwalton

On the edge of the fens and bisected by the main London to Edinburgh railway, which is carried high on an embankment, Woodwalton is a scattered community extending for well over a mile and with a village hall to act as a focal point.

In the northern section is Church End where, in the fields beside the railway, is the medieval church and the fragmentary remains, on a low hill, of an early motte and bailey castle.

Woodwalton Fen, approached from Ramsey Heights, is a nature reserve administered by English Nature.  Opposite the village green is a free house, the Elephant and Castle.
