Employing people
The number of employed people living in Huntingdonshire is the second highest of all local authorities in the East of England. While this shows the district is an attractive place to live and work in, there is also a high level of out-commuting.
The district council aims to reduce the level of out-commuting by attracting new business enterprise and encouraging employers to provide local jobs for local people. Despite the low level of unemployment locally, we also aim to encourage firms to employ and train school leavers and residents looking for jobs.
The council has created a film to highlight the benefits of Huntingdonshire to encourage inward investment and attract people to the area. There is a link to the film, 'Huntingdonshire in Perspective', on the right.
For information on training and skills development opportunities in the district, see Huntingdonshire Learning Partnership's Local Learning Providers Directory.
Jobcentre Plus, Business Link and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) can all provide support and advice, to help with recruiting staff as well as offering businesses guidance and advice on recruitment and employment issues. For more information, see the related link on the right.
